Good old rule is to never risk more than 2% of your account in one trade.

In example: You have 10000 USD in your account (unleveraged amount). You consider a trade with 20 pips stop loss and you do not want to risk more than 2% of your account on the trade. Based on the calculation you can enter the trade with 1 lot or 10 mini lots.
